Excellent tutorial! I hope you keep making videos. Would love to see updates for 2024 (esp when creating Targets). Also would love to see how someone self-employed would use YNAB. Do you use ATB category for business expenses? Would love to see how you integrate personal and business using ynab.

Dave has nothing to teach that my grandparents didn;t know, live, and teach. His ideas are in the right place, and his methods are a way to make it work for people who are bad with money. If they weren't, they wouldn't be in mountains of debt to begin with. His methods are not the fastest way out of debt--to do that, you pay off the highest income items first. But he insists that people won't stick to it without seeing the results of clearing smaller debts. Maybe HIS clients won't. But many of his clients are paying a multi millionaire $129 to learn some basic principles that they could learn for free!. What you need to know--be able to identify the difference between a "want" and a "need." Don't spend money you do'n't have unless it is an absolute need. Don't go into debt for anything other than a mortgage. n Save for a rainy day and for retirement. Do you have to eat rice and beans? No. But one of the biggest money wasters is eating out. DO take advantage of any employer 401K match, even when you are in debt. DO NOT let that free money go to waste! Credit cards are not evil, but many people cannot handle them. If you can't pay it off in full at the end of each month, don't use it. If having it in your wallet is too tempting, don't carry it. When it comes to investing, use a real professional for help, not Dave. His 12% year after year exists only in his head.

The funniest part is that as you’re describing this app I’m like huh I already do that maunualy every paycheck (I dont have adhd) and then you said “and it sends you daily updates with how much discretionary spending you have” and I said lol my husband asks for daily updates on what money is left like that 😭 (he does have adhd) Edit: as I continue to watch the rest of this video it just keeps calling my poor husband out, imma have to show him this when I get home from work lmao

I get that for some people, his advice is helpful, but he can deliver this advice without having them on and berating them. He understands intimately that he is using people's vulnerability for content. It's different from someone just wanting to educate on the internet, it's exploitative.

Girl, I'm gonna cry! Thank you for this video!!! You have no idea how much I have shamed myself for continuously trying month after month to stay on budget but then losing some important meds i need to replace or forgetting I bought food last Thursday and figuring it out once I'm trying to reconcile at the end of the month! I had started to be very angry with myself and feel like i just couldn't do it. The cash envelope system my family recommended well..... unfortunately, I've ALWAYS been REALLY good at losing all types of paper LOL! I'm so excited to implement these tips for more motivation and feel some excitement and motivation about my budgeting!!! I went from thinking it could never work for me to believing I can do it, I just have to do it DIFFERENT and that's nothing to be ashamed of. THANK YOU!!!!

I got paid a few days ago. It took me 10 minutes to wipe out my check. The good news is that my bills are covered for rhe summer break. In the past that NEVER would have happened. July 1st I would be sweating.

I have worked in sped for 30+ years and never entertained the idea of myself having a learning disability. I was always the the village idiot from 4th grade on. Not only am I being tested for adhd....but dyscalculia. Dyscalculia is a math learning disability similar to dexlexia....but for math/ left brain. I can add, subtract, x and ÷ really well ( using my fingers) but anything beyond that my brain goes blank. I can do numbers but I avoid them. Most people have never heard of dyscalculia I accidentally found out how my brain struggles. I also was diagnosed with double vision 20 years ago. The numbers font line up for me. I finally got my act together and got out of $$$$$ worth of debt in about 2 years. It works but the denial has to end. Denial of debt and learning disability.

thank you for sharing your thoughts and opinion! as I'm starting my wealth building journey I also had the vague feeling that $1k was not enough for emergencies, and that there are other priorities that could be more important than just paying debt for various reasons. I've been thinking that I'll feel much more secure, too, if I have two or three months of expenses saved, and then I will tackle debt. Maybe I'll even alternate between a debt payoff goal and a month of saved expenses goal. Thanks for sharing and explaining your thinking so well!
